Epic Waterfall And Mountain Engagement Session On The Blue Ridge Parkway | Black Balsam Knob, NC

Gillian + Allen
Today’s engagement session was literally perfect!!! Gillian and Allen both absolutely rocked the session and we couldn’t be happier with the turnout! Driving 2 hours from home for these epic locations was totally worth it! <3 We cannot wait to capture their amazing wedding day next October!
Gillian and Allen have been together for 5.5 years! They love to do anything and everything together. They love to stay at home, play video games together, and they also love race nights since Allen races. They're kids at heart and love to laugh and have fun together! The love between these two is so cute to witness. Just telling them to look at each other they started giggling and smiling and you could truly see how happy they are together. I LOVE that. These sweet moments are why I love what I do and I'm so honored to witness and capture it for them! :')
We started today in Balsam Grove, NC at the gorgeous waterfall location! This spot is perfect, it’s easy to get to, has pretty good parking and it’s on the way to the Blue Ridge Parkway (where our next spot is!) but the best part.. it has TWO waterfalls!! The photos we got from this spot today we’re literally perfect. Their outfits coordinated perfectly and we hit it off with them from the beginning! We started pretty quickly with some establishing shots and her guiding him to the waterfall and him leading her to the waterfall. We always try to do some kind of movement at the beginning to get you comfortable! From there, we moved closer to the waterfall and I started directing them with poses! They caught on so quickly and started posing on their own and it was the sweetest! Watching them laugh and smile together was so so sweet!! <3
Our second location for the day was Black Balsam Knob on the Blue Ridge Parkway! If you’ve never heard of it, it’s simply amazing. Even just for a day trip with the family, it’s a great hike and the views are amazing! We always take the shorter, steeper trail to the top, it usually takes us about 15-20 minutes! This location is great because it offers so much. You have the beautiful pine trees on the way up the trail (giving that forest vibe), and you have incredible views at the top, rocks, wildflowers, and grass! Combining this location with the waterfall honestly gives you the best of both worlds! When we arrived at Black Balsam Knob we started hiking, it was a little muddy due to all the rain we’ve gotten the past few days. We always recommend bringing hiking shoes and your photo shoes even if we haven’t had rain just in case. We made our way up to the top and on arrival, we realized just how chilly elevation change can be haha. Who would’ve thought we’d already need to start bringing sweaters or jackets to sessions at the beginning of September? I feel like the south’s weather is always all over the place haha! Despite the chilly wind, she did an outfit change in our pop-up dressing room to finish the session out with her wrap dress, and WOW!! <3
This session was gorgeous and we loved getting to spend the day with Gillian and Allen. Thankfully none of us fell on the trail, just a couple of slick spots on the way down, but all in all the hike was great! Today was such an adventure and I think these photos capture their love so perfectly! <3
If you’re willing to drive for your engagement shoot the Blue Ridge Parkway is STUNNING and there are so many options for spots along the way. Enjoy these sweet moments from their engagement shoot today!
